Well, we have made it to the shortest day and all we have to do now is sleep through the longest night, knowing it won’t be that long before one of us will look out into an early February afternoon and say, ‘Oh, it’s still light’, as if we had forgotten about the earth’s axial tilt contracting and extending the length of our days as we orbit the sun.
I must try and remember how darkness is not to be feared or resisted, like this morning in the yoga studio when the instructor dimmed the lights and we submitted to the shadows around us as well as those within us.
